How Much Kundali Matching is Important Before Marriage

Kundali Matching

It is very important that life should work out well with not many obstacles after marriage. Now, how can we know about a harmonious marriage? The study of kundali matching by date of birth comes into the picture here.

Only an expert astrologer can help you study the horoscope of the prospective bride and groom with the help of kundali matching for marriage. This study tells us about the compatibility of the couple and has been done since ages. The married life of the couple works just as per the changes of the position of the planets in the various houses. It is very important to understand how kundali matching is done.  The system used for checking the compatibility of both the horoscopes is known as Guna Milan using a system known as Ashtakoota Guna Milan system.

Guna Milan is one factor that helps us decide if the kundlis of the couple are compatible or not. The Constellations or Nakshatras is one factor that governs for marriage as the planets and the celestial bodies influence the lives of individuals also.

Kundli matching makes sure that these heavenly bodies are complimentary to each other helping build a healthy, peaceful, happy and harmonious relationship. It is mainly the moon placement of the couple which is taken into account while considering Guna Milan or matching of qualities.

Each Guna has been assigned a particular point and if that Guna matched, the total points are added. In such a manner, the 8 factors are matched and accordingly marks or points are allocated.  The total Gunas are 36 and it is said that marriage is possible if more than 18 points are scored.

The different factors are known as Koota as following:

  • Varna Koota - Marks assigned - 1

  • Vashya Koota - Marks assigned - 2

  • Tara Koota - Marks assigned - 3

  • Yoni Koota - Marks assigned - 4

  • Graha Maitri Koota- Marks assigned - 5

  • Gana Koota - Marks assigned - 6

  • Rashi Koota - Marks assigned - 7

  • Nadi Koota - Marks assigned - 8

Varna Koota

This Koota indicates the spirituality degree and spiritual respect between the couple. The 12 Rashis have been split into 4 Varnas viz., Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishyas and Shudras The Varna of the groom should always be higher or equal to that of the bride. This Koota indicates 1 point.

Vashya Koota

This Koota indicates the Mutual control. Here the zodiac signs are divides into 5 Vashyas or categories. Viz.,

  • Chatuspad or quadruped – Aries, Taurus, 2nd half of Sagittarius and first half of Capricorn

  • Dwipada or Manushya or Human – Gemini, Virgo, Libra, first half of Sagittarius and Aquarius

  • Jalchar or Water  - Cancer, 2nd half of Capricorn and Pisces

  • Banachar or Wild animals – Leo

  • Keet or Insect – Scorpio

It is considered ideal for the bride and bridegroom to belong to the same Vashya  and it gives 2 points.

Tara Koota

This Koota tells us about the mental compatibility and lucky between the couple. Here, the Janmanakshatra of the bride is counted from the Janmanakshatra of the groom and divided by 9.  If the result has a remainder in odd numbers like 3,5 or 7 it is considered auspicious and point given is 0. Else it is good and the score is 1.5.  Next the Janma Nakshatra of groom from the Janma Nakshatra of bride is counted and again divided by 9. If the result has a remainder in odd numbers like 3,5 or 7 it is considered auspicious and point given is 0. Else it is good and the score is 1.5.  If both are beneficial then the points assigned are 3, if one is beneficial and other not then 1.5 points are assigned and if both are inauspicious then the points assigned are 0.

Yoni Koota

This tells about the couple’s sexual compatibility If both the yoni kootas are the same, favourable results are seen and accordingly points are assigned.  If the Yoni Kootas are different,, it shows enmity between the couple.

Grahamaitri Koota

Mitra Koota tells us about the Mutual Affection between the Bride and Groom. In this Koota, friendship of the Lords of Rashi of both the bride and the groom is understood.

Gana Koota

Gana Koota tells us about the attitude compatibility of the couple. Here, the Nakshatras are divided into 3 categories viz., Deva Gana, Manushya or Manava Gana and Rakshasa Gana. It is most auspicious to have marriage between similar or Sama Gana.

During Kundli matching, this Gana Koota is of utmost importance. This Koota just lets us know if the individual if of traditional bent of mind or liberal minded. If there is a mismatch in Ganas, there mutual understanding is lacking.

Rashi Koota or Bhakoot Koota

Rashi Koota tells about the Mutual Love between the bride and the bridegroom. The position of Janma Rasis in the horoscopes of both the bride and the groom are studied. If they are located mutually in 2/12 or 6/8 or 5/9 positions, this is treated as inauspicious or malefic and no point is given. For location at other positions full 7 points are given. 2/12 position shows poverty, 5/9 shows loss of children and 6/8 placement shows death.

Nadi Koota

Nadi Koota tells about the Health of the Couple. The nakshatras are divided into three categories called

1. Adi Nadi

2. Madhya Nadi

3. Antya Nadi.

Marriage compatibility is not present when the Janma Nakshatras of both the bride and the bridegroom are similar. It gets 0 points. If nakshatras are dissimilar it gets full 8 points.

This matching only takes into account the Moon Nakshatra. It doesn’t study the Ascendant, Sun and other planetary combination. Venus is the Significator for marriage but it also doesn’t study it. Is it possible for a person with Weak Venus and 7th house to lead a happy married life with Matching of Moon Stars. This is not the way a Janma Kundali should be matched.

Thus, only Nakshatra Matching is not right for astrological matching for marriage or Kundli matching. Marriage compatibility based only on nakshatra is an incomplete Process not even being a 10 percent of the entire Match Making Process.

A Deep understanding of birth charts is more important than Koota Agreements. If both the chart promises long life with health and happiness, then suppose the Matching score is low, marriage will be completely satisfactory. If Planetary Alignment of both the Charts is right, a good Guna Matching point is added advantage but do not depend only on Nakshatra matching is not a good idea.
